Women voters rejected Congress, allies for opposing Reser...

Nandyal MP and TDP national general secretary Byreddy Shabari said women have taught a fitting lesson to the Congress and its allies, the DMK and Trinamool Congress (TMC), for opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill.

“Those who celebrated the defeat of Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament have faced the ire of the women. It is a slap on the face of the three parties, and they have lost miserably in the recent elections as women voters have rejected them,” said Ms. Shabari speaking at a party programme in Nandyal town on Wednesday.

Ms. Shabari recalled that when the NDA government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, it was vehemently opposed by the Congress and its allies DMK and Trinamool Congress.

“Driven by a malicious intent to deny women their rightful 33% reservation, these parties were directly responsible for the Bill’s defeat,” she alleged.

Ms. Shabari asserted that she had earlier warned the Congress, DMK, and TMC, who had gone so far as to celebrate the Bill’s defeat right inside Parliament, that a fitting lesson awaited them. “What I said has been proved right, and in the recently held Assembly elections, women taught a lesson to theses parties by defeating them with the power of their vote,” Ms. Shabari said.

The TDP national general secretary expressed confidence that in the coming six months, the NDA government would introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, secure its passage, and implement the 33% reservation for women, fulfilling the promise made to them.
