S. Jeyakumar assumed office of Superintendent of Police in Dindigul on Thursday.

He said strict action will be taken against those involved in crimes against women and children.

Addressing journalists, Mr. Jeyakumar said repeat offenders and history-sheeters will be closely monitored and severe action will be taken against them if they engage in any illegal activities.

Special teams will be formed to prevent drug menace in Dindigul district. The police will also conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges regarding the dangers of substance abuse, crimes against children, and safe use of social media, he said.

Necessary measures will be taken to streamline traffic in key tourist places like Kodaikanal and Palani. Steps will be taken to manage traffic and prevent crimes in important places of the district, he said.

To ensure the safety of school students, time restrictions will be enforced regarding the entry of heavy vehicles into the town. Strict action will also be taken against the sale of lottery, he said.

The operations of check-posts at the district borders, the strength of police personnel and the quality of CCTV cameras will be reviewed, and immediate steps will be taken to modernise them, he said.

A special grievance redressal camp will be held every Wednesday, presided over by the Superintendent of Police and attended by all Deputy Superintendents of Police to hear public grievances. The public can also meet the SP in person and submit petitions on the other days, he said.

A dedicated mobile number 8270701520 has been introduced. The public can directly lodge complaints and share information to the SP via WhatsApp or SMS. Calls made to the number will be attended by the SP or his office and appropriate action will be taken.
