Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested in Mangaluru and Udupi, in separate cases, and a total of approximately 16 grams of MDMA was seized.
In the first case, sleuths from the Central Crime Branch on Thursday arrested Annappa Swamy alias Manu, 26, of Kulai Hosabettu in Surathkal and seized 15 grams of MDMA worth ₹1.5 lakh from him.
In a press note, the police said Mr. Swamy was allegedly selling MDMA to students and other consumers around the Kulai Gudde area. The sleuths also seized a mobile phone, a digital weighing scale, and zip-lock covers. A case has been registered against the accused at Surathkal police station.
Mr. Swamy is also accused in two cases under the NDPS Act registered at Panambur and Bajpe police stations, besides one case each of stone-pelting at a masjid and assault registered at Surathkal police station, and an attempt to murder case registered at Ullal police station, the police said.
In the second case, Malpe police arrested Syed Mohammed Meharaj, 19, of Brahmavar and seized 1.03 grams of MDMA. The police alleged that Mr. Meharaj was selling drugs to students and others in Kaup, Brahmavar, Udupi and Manipal. The police also seized a scooter and other articles from his procession.
Mr. Meharaj was produced before a jurisdictional court, which remanded him to judicial custody at the district prison in Hiriyadka, the police said.
