1. Nomination filing ends for T.N. election

On the last day for filing nomination for the April 23 State Assembly election, several top leaders and party cadres who are contesting the polls submitted their nominations.

The Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, Premallatha Vijayakant of the DMDK, O. Panneerselvam who recently defected to the DMK, Sowmiya Anbumani of the PMK were among those who filed today (April 6, 2026).

2. Sattankulam Jayaraj-Benicks custodial deaths case: All nine policemen sentenced to death

All the nine police personnel convicted in the 2020 Sattankulam custodial deaths case, in which trader P. Jayaraj (58) and his son J. Benicks (31) died in police custody during the COVID-19 pandemic, were awarded death sentence by the First Additional District and Sessions Court in Madurai.

The trial court had convicted them in the case last month.

3. Stall release of Tamil film ‘TN 2026’, urges a plea before Madras High Court

A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to stall the release of the Tamil movie ‘TN 2026’ until the completion of the upcoming State Assembly election since the movie reportedly has several political references which could affect the outcome of the polls.
