St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, received Tier-I accreditation for its three undergraduate programmes — Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering — from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.
In a release, the college said the achievement marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and quality assurance. The accreditation was granted under the NBA Tier-I July 2024 Accreditation Document, following a comprehensive evaluation by an NBA expert team during its visit to the institution from May 8 to 10. The three programmes were accredited for a period from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028.
The college said it has thus become the first autonomous engineering college in Dakshina Kannada to secure NBA Tier-I accreditation.
NBA accreditation is a nationally recognised quality benchmark for technical education. Tier-I accreditation is awarded to programmes offered by autonomous institutions that demonstrate excellence in curriculum design, teaching-learning processes, student outcomes, industry engagement, research contributions, governance and continuous quality enhancement. Graduates from NBA-accredited programmes gain wider recognition for their qualifications both nationally and internationally, particularly in countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.
