Praveen, 30, was arrested for verbally abusing and injuring a woman in Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar on Tuesday.

Jayalakshmi, 48, resident of Perambur, is employed at a steel workshop. She has known Praveen, another Perambur resident, for the last two years. Recently, she stopped talking to him since she was unhappy with his behaviour. However, he frequently reached out to her on her mobile and continued to harass her.

On Tuesday, while Jayalakshmi was waiting for a bus on Madhavaram High Road, Praveen approached her and insisted that she accompany him. When she refused, he verbally abused her, injured her with a small piece of iron, and issued death threats. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

Following a complaint, the Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar police registered a case under The Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and arrested Praveen.
