The police have arrested three inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison and a friend of theirs, who came to visit them, for allegedly sneaking ganja into the prison.
The arrested have been identified as prisoners M. Mahesh, L. Surendran and M. Abivishnu and V. Navin of Chinna Thadagam near Coimbatore.
According to the police, Navin approached the prison authorities for permission to visit his three prisoner friends. He was allowed to meet his friends at the visitors’ area on Tuesday afternoon. Navin handed over snacks and other eatables to prison guards, to be handed over to Mahesh.
The prison guards checked the items brought by Navin and found 6.24 grams of ganja concealed inside a snack. The Race Course police registered a case against the five persons based on a complaint from Jailer Thirumalai.
