The Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged a demonstration against the Union Government here on Thursday (May 7, 2026).
As part of the State-wide protest, on Thursday morning, the CPI, CPI(M), and VCK staged a demonstration before the State Bank of India at Fort. The cadres of the three parties raised slogans against the Union Government, demanding the reduction of the price of commercial gas cylinders and to reduce the vacancies in the railways.
They alleged that the price hike of commercial gas cylinders has affected the poor and the middle-class. While the price of crude oil reduced drastically in the past, the Union Government did not reduce the price of petrol and diesel, and this only benefits the oil companies. Likewise, the Indian Railways has planned to cut two percent of sanctioned posts, which destroys the dreams of the youths and this decision should be revoked immediately, they added.
In the protest, CPI district secretary A. Mohan, CPI (M) district secretary A. Ramamoorthy and other functionaries participated.
