England cruised to 219/1 against Sri Lanka in the opening fixture of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday. The total is the highest ever in the history of the tournament bettering the previous top mark of 213/5, also scored by England against Pakistan in the 2023 edition held in South Africa.

Asked to bat first, a scintillating century from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, ably supported by a fifty from Amy Jones and a quickfire unbeaten 46 from Nat Sciver-Brunt helped England post an imposing total in its campaign opener, with England looking to go deep in the tournament to capitalise on a hyped home World Cup.
