Manuel Neuer became the most capped goalkeeper in FIFA World Cup history when he took the field for Germany against Ivory Coast in Toronto on Saturday.
This was the Bayern Munich custodian’s 21st World Cup appearance putting him ahead of France’s World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris who had 20.
Neuer had initially announced his international retirement after Euro 2024 but was tempted back into the squad by head coach Julian Nagelsmann just ahead of the finals in North America. He did not make a single appearance during the qualification campaign.
