Renault Triber

The Renault Triber has perfected the art of being the ‘mini Swiss-Army knife.’ It’s a sub-four-metre magic trick. Seven seats? Done. Need a six-seater? Easy. Want a spacious five-seater with a boot big enough for a weekend’s worth of luggage space? A few clicks and tugs, and it shapeshifts without complaints. Now, the 2025 facelift sharpens the blade, addressing the one area that mattered most: image and safety.

India noticed this clever game when the Triber arrived in August 2019, sprinting to 1,00,000 sales in just 30 months. While the buzz has calmed since, with monthly numbers settling around 1,500 units, that’s still nearly half of Renault India’s entire sales tally. The Triber remains one of Renault’s most important products, small in size, big on duty, and surprisingly good at squeezing every last drop of practicality out of its footprint.

The Triber’s face gets the biggest glow-up. There’s a new gloss-black grille, slimmer LED projectors and a cleaner bumper design that ties everything together. The sharper DRLs and low-mounted foglamps give it a more modern stance and the updated 2D Renault logo sits right in the centre. From the side, the functional roof rails (rated for 50 kg) still add utility, and the 15-inch wheels now come with smarter-looking covers that once again pretend to be alloys and pull it off well.

The rear follows the same subtle-but-effective theme. The tail-lamps are now LED and connected by a gloss-black strip, which adds width to the design, completed by a reshaped bumper. It’s a smart refresh; nothing extreme, but enough to make the little MPV look sharper and more upmarket.

Step inside and the cabin immediately feels more polished. The dashboard now takes cues from the Kiger, wearing a beige-and-black theme that brightens things up. The eight-inch touchscreen sits higher, pushing the AC vents below it, and the new start/stop button is neatly centred. Renault has also added a driver armrest and a new steering wheel, complete with mounted controls. The lighter upholstery helps the cabin feel airier as well.

On the features front, the 2025 Triber packs a strong punch with auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree camera, a seven-inch digital cluster and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Crucially, safety has gone up significantly. Six airbags are now standard along with ESP, traction control, hill-start assist and a TPMS. Renault also claims the body shell has been strengthened for added peace of mind.

For families, the small details matter most: third-row passengers finally get their own charging ports, and both the second and third rows have dedicated AC vents. This is not a small detail, it’s essential.

The Triber’s biggest compromise remains under the bonnet. Mechanically, nothing’s new; it still runs the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 71 bhp and 9.8 kg-m. Our RXZ manual test car felt familiar; smooth, efficient and perfectly happy in the city. The light clutch and short gearing make daily commuting easy, and it even feels a touch sprightly in the first few gears.

Take it out on the highway and the limits show up quickly. Cruising at 100 kph is fine, but overtakes need commitment and a couple of downshifts, especially with passengers onboard. Hitting 100 kph itself isn’t exactly thrilling and this engine clearly prefers a relaxed driving style. A turbo-petrol option from the Kiger would’ve made things far more interesting and changed the experience completely.

nails comfort

Where the Triber redeems itself is in ride comfort. Renault has absolutely nailed the suspension setup; it flattens rough patches, handles broken roads without drama and still stays impressively composed for a tall MPV. There’s some body roll, but nothing alarming. The 182 mm of ground clearance also means you don’t have to tiptoe around bad roads. The steering stays light in town and gains just enough weight at speed, behaving predictably and reliably.

The 2025 Triber has completed its mission: it’s safer, smarter and visually modern. It won’t give you thrills, but it sets the new benchmark for practicality and sheer value. No other sub-four-metre car fits families and luggage this well without feeling cramped or compromised.

If your priority is space, comfort and safety in a budget-friendly package, the updated Renault Triber is a smart no-nonsense choice. If your budget stops here, this car starts your family’s journey.
