Saif Khan, MD & CEO, BSH Home Appliances.

BSH Home Appliances, which manufactures and sells products under Bosch and Siemens brands, aims to double its market shares in terms of volume for both washing machines and refrigerators this year.

For the company, a subsidiary of Munich‑headquartered BSH Hausgeräte GmbH, the washing machines segment is a major growth driver, dominated by front-load washing machines. “This year we have launched the top loads and semi automatics, a bigger range of washing machines located to all price classes and consumer addressability. In the first five months of this year, the washing machine segment has been seeing a 40 per cent growth for us versus last year,” Saif Khan, MD & CEO, BSH Home Appliances, told businessline.

“For washing machines we are looking to double the market share. Currently, we would be somewhere at about 6 per cent, and we intend to go to 12 per cent. In the front load category, we have 14 per cent market share,” Khan said.

After washing machines, the refrigerators segment is the second largest contributor to the company’s revenue at present. The home appliances maker has entered the fast-growing side-by-side refrigerator category with the launch of its new Bosch and Siemens four-door side-by-side refrigerators. The new range for contemporary city homes and modular kitchens has been engineered for urban Indian lifestyle.

new launch

“With this new launch now, we become a full stack player for our cooling business, everything from single-door to side- by-side four-door refrigerator is now available in the lineup. This is India’s first semi-integrated refrigerator, which can be used both as a built-in model as well as freestanding,” Khan said.

BSH currently has around 2 per cent market share for refrigerators in India. “In the refrigerator segment we are already seeing a 50 per cent jump in volumes compared to last year. We are aiming at doubling the volume market share,” the MD said.

The company is a market leader in the dishwashers segment. Other key segment for it is built-in cooking appliances with around 55 per cent market share.

Khan informed that the company took a price hike between 5-7 per cent across segments in the month of May to cope with increase in costs of materials related to petrochemicals, among others.

“Bosch contributes around 80 per cent of the company’s revenue at present as the brand has predominantly wide ranges of products. Siemens is more on the premium consumer side, and the range is also mostly for the built-in modular kitchens,” he added.
