Tata Trusts to consider leadership change at Tata Sons Fr...

The board of Tata Trusts, which will be meeting on Friday this week, is understood to be weighing the option of replacing Venu Srinivasan with Bhaskar Bhat as a nominee director on Tata Sons, sources said.

This will likely be discussed at the meeting and also put to the vote, sources said.

Currently, Srinivasan and Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata, are the two nominee directors on the board of Tata Sons. Former bureaucrat Vijay Singh, who was earlier on the board of Tata Sons, stepped down in September last year when a section of trustees led by former trustee Mehli Mistry voted against his reappointment.

Bhat was appointed a trustee on the board of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, one of the two largest trusts within the Tata Trusts fold, in November last year. He was appointed, along with Noel Tata’s son Neville Tata, for a three year term.

Bhat is understood to be loyal and close to Noel Tata, who is strengthening his support base at the Tata group.

Recently both Srinivasan and Singh came out in support of listing of Tata Sons, while Noel Tata is sticking to the stand of keeping it unlisted.

The boards of both Tata Sons and Tata Trusts have previously passed resolutions, which have been carried unanimously, to keep Tata Sons unlisted. If there is a plan to reverse that decision, those resolutions will have to be revisited, sources said.

They pointed out that with Bhat on board, a unanimous resolution to not list Tata Sons would be likely.
