Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay urged the Centre to establish the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) design and development centre and the Centre for Airborne Systems facility in Tamil Nadu.

The AMCA is a planned Indian single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, fifth-generation, stealth, multirole combat aircraft being developed for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. CABS, a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation, develops cost-effective airborne surveillance systems for various defence services.

He made the request during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday during his first visit to the national capital after assuming office as Chief Minister, according to a release from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

During the meeting, Vijay also raised objections to Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery River. He said the project should not be approved without the consent of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, and sought the Prime Minister’s intervention.

The Chief Minister further requested the Union Home Ministry to issue a clarification permitting the Tamil Thai Vazhthu (State invocation song) to be sung at the beginning of all government functions in Tamil Nadu, the release added.

Later, Chief Minister Vijay during his meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised that investment in key infrastructure projects is essential to accelerate such growth. He requested priority allocation of funds for Tamil Nadu’s development needs, including ports, highways, railway projects, and industrial corridors, says a release.

To strengthen Tamil Nadu’s robust educational ecosystem, the Chief Minister also requested the establishment of Institutes of National Importance in the State. Additionally, he urged the Union Finance Minister to allocate the necessary funds for implementing Metro Rail projects in Hosur, Coimbatore, and Madurai to improve public transportation in these cities, the release said.
