Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S Keerthana on Monday alleged that 25 major investment projects worth ₹3.3 lakh crore moved out of Tamil Nadu to seven other States during the previous DMK-led government’s five-year tenure, resulting in the loss of an estimated 2.03 lakh employment opportunities for the State’s youth.

Addressing reporters outside the Assembly after the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, Keerthana said that no investment project had left Tamil Nadu during the first 40 days of the TVK-led government, contrary to allegations made by the opposition.

The Minister rejected claims that major industrial investments were shifting from Tamil Nadu to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and said the opposition had walked out of the House before the government could place facts and evidence on record regarding industrial projects.

Reacting sharply to the opposition’s charge that the present government was acting as the “NDA’s B-team”, Keerthana said several marquee projects had moved to BJP-ruled States during the previous government’s tenure. “Projects such as Tata Semiconductor, Micron and Suzuki went to Gujarat during the previous regime. Yet they are now accusing us of losing investments to Andhra Pradesh within just 40 days,” she said.

fresh investments

The Minister the TVK government remains committed to attracting fresh investments and creating employment opportunities across Tamil Nadu.

Keerthana added that institutional mechanisms for investment promotion were being strengthened. Guidance Tamil Nadu, the State’s investment promotion agency, was being reinforced with additional teams to proactively engage with investors and attract global investments.

The government would continue to pursue new industrial projects aggressively while ensuring that existing investment commitments materialise on schedule, she said.
