WBZ's show was heavily playing Bosstown stuff then like Orpheus, Beacon St, Travis Pike, Ultimate Spinach and I bought all I could afford. MGM promotional push was huge and I bought in.
Zoe, I was taping WBZ from home in Dodge City kansas as a 12 year old on the extact night of the Jan 20 1968 Billboard ad at start of the link I sent above. IF you'd like a copy of part of that reel to reel, I think I transferred some to computer decades ago. I could upload a link and send.
Going searching thru my external harddrive now. Glad I transferred about 50 reels decades ago because still have 100 never copied and likely all deteriorating badly year after year. I had so much flaking off even 20 years ago.
Yeah, all radio taped by me. Most not transferred were not line from speaker, so those are taped with tinny mic held up to speaker. I dubbed the ones I made with line straight in from speaker so they are decent except was mainly after the songs, not the DJs so not much of any length usually. STILL, love it even with all the static and fading DXing long distance.
Yeah, it's so weird to think of just 1990s paying for long distance. I used to call COD from pay phones when on vaca and have bills of all the phone calls made to Bob Irwin about Sundazed CD projects. Its kinda exciting to look back at them.
i knew this song as a child, by the kingston trio. this was one of the 5 family sing-alongs. i knew all the words by 5 years old, as best i could interpret them.
WELL, I basically did not throw away stuff because was always busy when working and went thru after retiring and finally cleared a lot out. Kep some that had many calls on them just for kicks.

I once called a British radio station to ask why they stopped playing Trip-Hop at night, nobody answered me, not sure what the phone bill was.
the local phone company (bell atlantic, in my case) was fine. i think it was about 5 bucks/month when i got my first apartment. but the long distance company (at&t, in my case - and there was no choice) was brutal!
OMG--expensive! WLS called Beatles in England in 64 and spoke to them day they were recording "Hard Days Night" over a transocean line. Likely cost a fortune.

my mother was too. her stuff, other people's stuff. in the case of her own stuff, it wasn't uncommon for her to have to replace at some point what she had thrown away.
it's ludicrous because she had a very large 1/2 an attic and 1/2 a basement just for storage, as well as a large apartment, once the last of her offspring moved out.
Awesome. No wonder BPN talked so much when you joined FMU! I usually worked with Bob in beginning and then Efram, Tim, Stephanie and a few others maybe?
I had a hard time in high school when my parents would pay for my clothes, and next thing I know, giving them away again! Now I feel bad if I buy something and only wearing it once, but I’ve gained a lot of weight and try to not wear anything tight as I feel it cuts off my circulation and my weak muscles
Thank you Chili dood! It's been in the 90s here, summer is upon us! I've been going to the river, we saw a little box turtle last time. I'm happy winter is over lol
Hopefully it’s not serious and you can heal quickly. Milk thistle tea helps flush your liver out effectively(it’s easy to find online and in healthier grocery stores). Be well
I had a similar situation growing up, now I tend to wear stuff until it turns to dust. I hate when I get something online and it doesn't fit right... but i just try to tell myself clothes are meant to be worn & not meant to fit urself into, comfort is more important to me now
I had a bit of a moving crisis and had to sell a lot of the records I had. Thankfully still have digital rips of them, im looking forward to building it up again

Dolemite:
Re: Chili’s post - The Byrds through a crappy AM radio
= sonic anti-depressant
That's a good tip... I've only seen a couple in my time living here, but I also haven't been in a while. That flooding last summer destroyed a lot, there are still some really nice spots though
A thick milkshake made of chemicals, not ice cream. It's so gross that - my Dad had to drive me to/from the doctor - he tried to pat me on the shoulder and I immediately shouted "Don't touch me!"
Bear with me here: I’ve been fixated on certain tracks from Pet Sounds lately, Here Today & That’s Not Me. Caroline, No for the better part of a year. Long story, however I stumbled onto a YT video with Brian Wilson stating that the way he intended to hear the album was with headphones on while in the dark. I thought it was about California Sunshine too ;-)
So, I don't know what your doctors said about prep for colonoscopy, but in my experience it has gotten better. Now I only had to drink a ton of gatorade with Miralax mixed in plus some laxative tabs. You also have to eat a low-fiber diet the week leading up. The fun part is they give you fentanyl during the procedure and you're high as a kite the next 12 hours.
Good to know. I quit buying in 2017 or so and decided I did not need all my stuff, so started listing and playing music I owned so long but never time to hear!
You, or at least I, had to drink a clear plastic tank filled of a prep solution from the pharmacy that made me projectile vomit. So, yes, gotten better.
Again, best part is the drugs they give and you're out for the count. If you're like me, you spend recovery watching The Terminator and Age of Innocence, and only remember about half of each movie.
Certain aspects of previous times are without a doubt better. Industrial design, radio, color palettes, fashion, you know. But the past is also a nightmare when you read the history. We have the Orange Turnip(not good) but folks had Bull Connor turning on the power hose and letting loose the attack dogs bc people demanded equality. Or…the more things change the more they stay the same
Anyway, I hope your enzyme test goes well and was all for nothing. The dark spot on your liver x-ray was just a clumsy intern who spilled some mustard from his club sandwich on it. Stupid intern! Worrying Bri the Beatnik!
I feel so sorry for kids growing up now, I have a 6 year old cousin and I feel like the shows I grew up watching at that age and younger were soo much better!
Same! I was 13 when I got my first cellphone which was a flip phone, first smartphone at 15 and first IPhone at 16, still using that same IPhone for 8 years!
I watched a lot of Nickelodeon, (SpongeBob, fairly odd parents) Noggin, Disney Channel: Kim Possible, that’s so raven Cartoon Network :Edd Ed and Eddy, Powerpuff girls
And I can totally appreciate that! Wonderful memories for sure, the music was definitely rad. I tend to think though that romanticizing the past tends to hold people in the present hostage. Just my two cents

WR:
Hello Zoe and folks. Random time that I am able to pop in and write a hello while show in progress. Otherwise, I am a dedicated Perfumed Garden archive fan
Yeah, but I flat out dont care about the present anymore. Dump Trump is my only opinion on present. Otherwise, I live for and IN the 60s and before that. Going on a genealogy trip with bro tomorrow to Iowa/Illinois for 1880s times of family history.
When I lost cable (on my 8th birthday of all days!) I only had Pbs kids for a few short hours(no 24/7 for a few years) sometimes if I was up Saturday morning cartoons, CBC kids. But mostly a lot of reruns from 50s-90s. I watched a lot of Seinfeld and adult comedies as a kid
When I was a kid, it was fun just to walk down to the downtown theater Saturday mornings in Dodge City to watch old Laurel & Hardy movies in a THEATER! FREE!
I honestly get it, don’t blame you. I often have this debate with my own parents. It is my sincere wish that folks of your generation cared more about the present because the rest of us are stuck here in the present with the aftermath.
Ok, so we're the same age roughly. Yes, it's objectively true children's television was better in the 90s. Nickelodeon was my drug of choice then. Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats, Doug, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Pee Wee's Playhouse - not Nickelodeon, but I watched it when it was on.
I watched a lot of Boomerang when I visited my grandparents on the weekends, we had an ancient TV at home that could only connect to VHS and the Wii Lol
Whaaaaaaat??? How is that even possible? Man NC politics, particularly with the state GOP, is so painfully backward thinking. “You are making Jeebus cry every time you eat a purple nurple gummy.” My condolences
For sure! I still grew up with a few 90s reruns, Nick Gas would air stuff like Legend of The Hidden Temple and Guts
♥
3:49pm
Chili MacPagoda:
Ren & Stimpy’s “Space Madeness” episode is as good and demented as anything from the 6ties and I’ll stand ten toes defending that opinion ;-)
Yeah for real, there was a loophole of epic proportions that allowed folks to sell THCA, which was just regular grass. They're closing that loophole now, last year my favorite shop got raided by feds and I pulled up as it was happening (on 4/20 no less) . They are cracking down around here for realz now

I had a similar situation growing up, now I tend to wear stuff until it turns to dust. I hate when I get something online and it doesn't fit right... but i just try to tell myself clothes are meant to be worn & not meant to fit urself into, comfort is more important to me nowBri The Beatnik:

Bear with me here: I’ve been fixated on certain tracks from Pet Sounds lately, Here Today & That’s Not Me. Caroline, No for the better part of a year. Long story, however I stumbled onto a YT video with Brian Wilson stating that the way he intended to hear the album was with headphones on while in the dark. I thought it was about California Sunshine too ;-)DanFA:

So, I don't know what your doctors said about prep for colonoscopy, but in my experience it has gotten better. Now I only had to drink a ton of gatorade with Miralax mixed in plus some laxative tabs. You also have to eat a low-fiber diet the week leading up. The fun part is they give you fentanyl during the procedure and you're high as a kite the next 12 hours.WLSClark:

Certain aspects of previous times are without a doubt better. Industrial design, radio, color palettes, fashion, you know. But the past is also a nightmare when you read the history. We have the Orange Turnip(not good) but folks had Bull Connor turning on the power hose and letting loose the attack dogs bc people demanded equality. Or…the more things change the more they stay the sameDanFA:
