Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson is safe for now.

After snapping their abysmal 10-game losing streak on Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies fell short the first place Atlanta Braves, yet again. Starting pitcher Aaron Nola gave up six runs, and the Phillies offense only recorded two hits.

Amongst their struggles, talks are beginning to swirl regarding ‘cleaning out house’ for the Phillies organization, and manager Rob Thomson is in the hot seat.

Thomson has been apart of the Phillies organization since 2018 as their bench coach. He then served as interim manager in 2022, before becoming the full-time manager.

Now that the defending NL East champs have lost 15 of their last 18 games, Rob Thomson’s job looks like it could be in jeopardy. However, he makes an interesting claim about the current speculation.

Phillies Manager Rob Thomson ‘Doesn’t Have Time to Think About Getting Fired’

Following Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki shares that manager Rob Thomson claims that getting fired is the last thing on his mind.

“Well, I mean, that’s natural, right?” Thomson asked after a reporter brought up his job security. “It’s normal. And I’ve never worried about that in my entire career. I worked for a guy for 28 years [Yankees owner George Steinbrenner] who, as the ‘Seinfeld’ episode will tell you, ‘Fires people like it’s a bodily function,’ and it never bothered me. It didn’t. I don’t have time to think about it. I’m a person that thinks about other people and what can I do to help them. And it’s out of my control. So that’s where I’m at.”

Thomson’s tenure with the Phillies has been nothing short of successful, however, they always seem to fall short at the wrong time.

MLB reporter Michael Marino shared to X that in 2022, the Phillies fired manager Joe Girardi after a 22-29 start, and later made it the World Series. While the coach that got them there happened to be Rob Thomson, it’s interesting to point out how successful their season ended up being once there was a change.

One of the Phillies’ struggling superstars, Kyle Schwarber, was asked if he thought there needs to be a personnel change in the organization, to which he replied, “No, I don’t think so.”

“I feel like we have the right people here, and we’ve got the right people to figure it out,” Schwarber added. “You know, it’s not like [we’re] saying that we think a change is needed, you know? You as a player, feel responsible for that. We’re the ones who are out there.”

Currently, Schwarber is batting .196 on the season and leads the team in strikeouts with 40.

Social Media Takes Their Stance On Potential Phillies Personnel Change

The city of Philadelphia is unhappy regarding the current state of their favorite baseball team. Many fans have made it clear that something needs to change within the Phillies organization.

Kevin Long is the Philadelphia Phillies’ hitting coach, who is coaching one of the worst offensive teams in the MLB.

Alec Bohm’s 2026 production has been absolutely horrendous. The third baseman’s 2026 splits are .143/.218/.194 through 27 games and 98 at-bats.

Long and Thomson are not the only people who fans are hoping to be let go, many believe that if Thomson goes, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski should follow suit.

Dombrowksi is at the forefront for the Phillies’ recent free agency blunders that has created quite a hole when it comes to spending for the future.
