Russell Wilson #3 of the New York Giants warms up prior to a game against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium.

Russell Wilson has had an incredible 14-year run in the NFL, despite his recent struggles with the New York Giants.

He’s a Super Bowl champion, a 10-time Pro Bowler, and has nearly 47,000 passing yards and 353 passing touchdowns.

He’s accomplished just about all you can in the NFL as a quarterback.

Heading into 2026, Wilson still seems to have some level of interest in continuing his playing career.

The former Seattle Seahawks draft pick took a free agent visit with the New York Jets earlier this week.

But recent reporting suggests Wilson is starting to lean in a different direction, and he may end up hanging up his cleats in exchange for the world of broadcasting.

Russell Wilson in Talks With CBS’ The NFL Today

According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, the former New York Giants quarterback is in “deep discussions” with CBS to join their team of NFL broadcasters.

Particularly, filling the vacant spot left behind by Matt Ryan, who left to join the Atlanta Falcons as their President of Football Operations.

“‘The NFL Today,’ CBS’ Sunday pregame show, is considered the favorite as the two sides have had lengthy talks, the sources said. Wilson, 37, recently had a visit with the New York Jets about the possibility of backing up Geno Smith,” wrote Marchand.

“Wilson has worked with CBS on a few occasions over the years, including this year’s playoffs. The rest of CBS’ crew is host James Brown and analysts Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher.”

The former Denver Bronco and Pittsburgh Steeler has flirted with television before. This past season, he joined CBS during the Giants’ bye week and was in the studio for The NFL Today during Week 14.

If Wilson does end up leaving football behind, he will have done so with a pretty incredible resume.

Despite his career not finishing as strongly as he may have hoped, there’s still a real chance he ends up making it to the Hall of Fame, considering his lengthy resume and gaudy career numbers.

The 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year is one of the more successful third-round picks in recent NFL history and is well deserving of consideration thanks to his incredible 10-year run in Seattle.

Russell Wilson Could Still Play if He Wanted to

Wilson had a tough go with the New York Giants in 2025, getting benched shortly into his tenure for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.

But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t still stay in the league if he wanted to.

Wilson isn’t a starting quarterback anymore, that much is clear. But as a backup quarterback? There are plenty of teams that could use a player of his caliber as an insurance plan.

For example, the New York Jets, who recently hosted Wilson on a visit, could certainly use him.

As things stand now, their primary backup behind Geno Smith is Cade Klubnik and Brady Cook, two guys who have no business serving as QB2 given their lack of experience.

The Jets are likely keeping their fingers crossed that Wilson doesn’t get a deal done with CBS and stays in the league for at least one more season.
