The Atlanta Braves will be holding their breath while awaiting further details on their star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr.

Acuña Jr. exited Atlanta’s 8-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night with an apparent left leg injury, which seems to be hamstring-related. Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a ground ball in the second inning of Saturday’s game, and came out of the batters bow slow, and was eventually removed from the game.

After the Braves win, manager Walt Weiss shared more details about the next steps for Ronald Acuña Jr.

Per manager Walt Weiss, Ronald Acuña Jr. will undergo further imaging on his left leg to determine the severity of the hamstring injury.

CBSSports wrote (after Ronald Acuña Jr. was pulled from the game):

“Acuna came out limping out of the batters box after a groundball out in the second inning and was taken out of the game shortly after. Atlanta should have another update on the superstar outfielder’s hamstring during or shortly after Saturday’s game once he undergoes further tests on the injury. Eli White is in at right field following Acuna’s exit.”

On Saturday, with the Braves’ win, Atlanta continues it’s impressive streak to start the season without a series loss. After the Rockies series, Atlanta will take on the Mariners and Dodgers out West. However, the here and now focus is the health of Ronald Acuña Jr.

More on Ronald Acuna Jr/Braves

This injury could end up being a serious deal for the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta still holds the best record in MLB, but even despite some of his struggles at the plate, Acuña Jr. is a clear glue player for the Braves.

In 33 games this season, he’s hitting .248 with two home runs, 16 runs scored, and 31 total hits.

He’s a five-time MLB All-Star, 2023 NL MVP winner, and one of MLB’s most exciting players. Ronnie is a career .288 hitter with 188 HR’s, 468 RBI, and 212 stolen bases in his nine-year MLB career.

This injury could also throw a wrench in Ronald’s contract negotiations in the coming years. Unfortunately, he’s missed a lot of time with a couple of severe injuries, and hamstrings are never something that is easy to return from. This also could be a ripple effect situation from Jurickson Profar’s suspension, which has forced Acuña Jr. to play every day in the outfield. If the imaging for the MRI comes back clean and Acuna returns sooner rather than later, it would be smart for Walt Weiss to utilize him from the DH spot.
