Free agent tight end David Njoku

New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is molding the Los Angeles Chargers offense in his vision. McDaniel is replacing Greg Roman and will now have one of the better quarterbacks as his signal-caller.

While the offseason has cooled down with free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft over, the Bolts still appear interested in adding more pieces to the team ahead of the next season.

One insider revealed that the Chargers are scheduled to meet with a Pro Bowl free agent tight end next week who could help Mike McDaniel’s offense.

The Los Angeles Chargers added Charlie Kolar on a three-year, $24.3 million deal to become the team’s blocking tight end. Kolar received a 72 pass block grade and a 71.5 run block grade by Pro Football Focus for his performances in the 2025 season.

Looking for a receiving tight end in free agency,  the Bolts will meet with a Pro Bowl tight end in just a couple of days.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Chargers will meet with former Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku on Monday.

Njoku, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, leaves the Browns organization after 9 seasons. Adding the tight end to the roster would give Justin Herbert another weapon to his receiving core.

The 2025 season was Njoku’s second-worst since entering the league. The tight end recorded 293 receiving yards (the second-lowest of his career) on 33 catches and 4 touchdowns. Looking for a change of scenery, Njoku could join Jim Harbaugh’s team if everything goes well on Monday.

It would give the former Miami Hurricane a stable quarterback room and link with one of the better offensive-minded coordinators calling the plays.

The tight end has logged 4,062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns in his career, earning a Pro Bowl nod in the 2023 season.

Cleveland has decided to part ways with David Njoku after rookie Harold Fannin Jr. had a strong season on a Browns roster that had no clear QB1.

If the Los Angeles Chargers were to add David Njoku to the tight end room, he would join Oronde Gadsden II, who had a strong rookie campaign.

The rookie tight end hauled in 664 receiving yards, averaging 13.6 yards per catch, and 3 touchdown receptions. Gadsden was fourth on the team in both statistics for the Chargers.

Adding a Pro Bowl player to the mix would give the Bolts a strong tight end duo and could rank among the league’s best.

The rise of the 13-man personnel, mainly by the city rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, could help get Njoku, Gadsden and Kolar on the field together, giving the offense versatility.

All this hangs in the balance if David Njoku has a good meeting with the Chargers on Monday. If he does, he could leave with a contract and become a member of the organization. If not, the tight end will have to look for a job elsewhere.
