Call for papers - TUG 2014
2014-05-14 · via TeX Users Group

As usual, we'd like to especially invite presentations on practical use of LaTeX, ConTeXt, MetaPost, and the rest of the TeX family, including in the world of commercial ventures. However, this should not be taken as exclusionary: presentations on new TeX developments, typography, publishing, or any topic related to the TeX world are also happily considered. Submission information

If you'd like to make a presentation at the conference, please submit a title and abstract via email (plain ASCII is fine, or any TeX format—but no footnotes, please) to tug2014@tug.org by May 16, 2014, and also specify your affiliation as you would like it listed in the program. The earlier the submission, the better. Please also write that same email address for any questions, suggestions, expressions of interest, etc.

Submissions after the deadline will be considered, as long as space is available. But to ease our planning, please at least contact us by the deadline if you possibly can.

Preprints or slides received by June 6 (preferred format: PDF with accompanying sources), will be included in the conference program. The final proceedings will be prepared as a TUGboat issue, after the conference; proceedings deadline: August 11, 2014.

Presentations without accompanying formal papers are also welcome at the conference. On the other hand, if you can't attend the conference to present your paper, please submit it as a regular TUGboat article.

Presentation guidelines

Here are some general guidelines for content of presentations:

  • plan for a mixed audience including plenty of users, not just developers;
  • emphasize typical usage, rather than esoteric features;
  • emphasize techniques that can be used today (dreams for the future are good to hear as well, of course);
  • give participants a path for learning further on their own, after the conference is over.

Technically, please prepare your presentation as a PDF file if at all possible, to minimize setup time. If live demonstrations or special software is needed, please tell us in advance. Internet access will be available.

Plan for a total presentation time around 35-45 minutes, including time for questions. If you know you will need either more or less time, let us know.

We can recommend perusing Jean-luc Doumont's pamphlet on papers and presentations, Traditions, templates, and group leaders: Barriers to effective communication.

We look forward to hearing from you!
