X-Men ’97 fans won’t have to wait long for Season 3 of the Marvel animated series, as they did between the first two seasons.

Producer Larry Houston has revealed that lessons have been learned and that the third installment of the superhero series will premiere sooner this time around.

“Luckily, the production problems won’t occur again,” Houston told The Direct in an interview. “There was a huge gap of time between [season] one and two. They’ve learned their lessons, so with [seasons] three and four, that won’t happen again… That was a one-off.”

The first season of X-Men ’97 premiered in March 2024, with the series’s last new episode dropping on May 15 of that same year. Season 2 of the comic book-based animated show is slated to premiere July 1 of this year, more than two years later.

Speaking to die-hard fans’ concerns about a possible drop in quality between the first two seasons, Houston said, “Trust me, as a fan, you will enjoy it.”

X-Men ’97 Season 2 continues with the heroic mutant team of X-Men, divided and thrown across different eras in time as they struggle to navigate their return home.

Meanwhile, back in the 1990s, suspicious foes and new strains of mutant intolerance are on the rise in the wake of the X-Men’s absence.

The second season of the original animated series features 9 episodes, and the voice cast includes Ross Marquand as Professor X, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and George Buza as Beast.

X-Men ’97 is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Julia Lewald, Eric Lewald, Larry Houston, and Beau DeMayo.
