Disney has announced its animated 2026 Christmas special will take inspiration from the 1990s live-action hit Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin.

Titled Mickey’s Home Alone, the full-length special will see Mickey looking forward to spending Christmas at home. His plans take a turn when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace.

In the morning rush to make it out the door, Mickey and Pluto are left behind and home alone. They find themselves protecting their home from two feisty villains, a raccoon and a weasel who are after their Christmas dinner, while Minnie and the gang desperately try to make their way back home.

The special will feature original songs ‘Ho-Ho-Home for Christmas’ and ‘Favorite Christmas Feeling’ by songwriter Keith Harrison Dworkin, who previously contributed to a number of Disney Christmas specials.

There will also be a new arrangement of the holiday classic ‘Jingle Bells’ by Emmy and Annie and Primetime Emmy-nominated composer Tony Morales (Elena of Avalor, Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico).

The Christmas special is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr. It is executive-produced by Tom Rogers and co-executive produced by Rachel Ruderman with Shane Prigmore as director.

It will debut in the 2026 holiday season on Disney Jr. and Disney+, some 36 years after Culkin was catapulted to stardom for his performance in Chris Columbus’ Home Alone as eight-year-old Kevin McCallister who is left behind by his family as they set off to spend Christmas In Paris.

Details of the Christmas Special has been released as newly-rebranded Disney Kids & Family gears up for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France where it will preview supernatural comedy adventure series The Doomies and unveil a first look for Disney+ show Cars: Lightning Racers.
