Kiki Gyan Documentary Among Projects Set For 2026 Locarno...

A documentary feature about the legendary Ghanaian musician Kiki Gyan is among the projects that will participate in this year’s Locarno Open Doors programme. 

Six projects from ten different African countries have been picked to participate in the programme. Locarno Open Doors is in the second year of a four-year cycle dedicated to Africa.  The titles are listed below:

  • Ghana: Too Much Music. Directed and produced by Aseye Fiagbe. 
  • Mozambique and South Africa: Chapa 100. Directed by Ique Langa and produced by Lara Sousa (Kulunga Filmes). 
  • Nigeria:  I Live in V.I. Directed by Ugochukwu Azuya and produced by Olubunmi Ogunsola.
  • Somalia and Djibouti: Accept My Plea For Burial. Directed by Mohammed Sheikh and produced by Kadir Harbi Hassan (Aleel Films). 
  • Tanzania–Kenya: The Ones With The Tempered Flowers. Directed by Neema Ngelime and produced by Ivy Kiru of AQ Pictures. 
  • Ugandan: A Vineyard for A Lobster. Directed by Talemwa Pius and produced by Gashumba Emmanuel (Gripmagic Uganda Limited). 

Locarno also runs an Open Doors program for producers and directors. Producers from six countries have been selected. They are: Mamounata Nikiema (Pilumpiku Production), Natasha Craveiro (Cabo Verde, Korikaxoru Films), Adja Mariam Mahre Soro (Studio Kä), David Ikeata (Vox Cinematic Films), Rua Osman  (Helomur Picture), and Tapiwa Chipfupa (Ambidextrous Pictures). 

The Open Doors directors are: Fagamou Fama Ndiaye (Senegal), Rediet Haddis Yalew (Ethiopia), Pocas Pascoal (Angola), Judith Nini Kibinge (Kenya), and Ariel Añez (Mozambique). Their short films will be part of the Open Doors Screenings, an official section of the Festival featuring both short and feature films, the full selection of which will be announced on 1 July 2026.
