The former president of the United States, Barack Obama has been in office for over two terms, and in that time his relationship saw a number of major milestones happen on the other side of the pond. The biggest of these was Brexit and a new book has just exposed some pretty private views that the Queen herself had on the referendum.

The book claims the monarch suffered pure dismay when she learned that the fate of UK’s place in the European Union was left to a vote that the public was able to take part in.

This revelation is of great importance because the British monarchy is famous for holding a politically impartial view but in this private chat, the former president had with the late monarch saw her getting candid.

Regarding the whole thing she said, “as big a decision” as leaving the European Union “should have been decided by plebiscite.”

Express UK also reports, “she [Elizabeth II] said, effectively, 'It's hard to understand why a prime minister, who presumably understands politics, would put a public referendum forward that he didn't know what the answer would be of such importance'.”

This account from the lunch back in 2016 also recalls, “they discussed the biggest current controversy in Great Britain, over Brexit. Her view on whether to leave the European Union was the subject of endless speculation during her reign and after her death.”
