PDFs in Feedly: Turn static PDFs into actionable threat i...

15-second summary

Extracting intelligence from PDF reports traditionally requires manual reading to identify threat data. This process consumes valuable analyst time and leads to inconsistent data extraction.

With PDFs in Feedly, you can:

  • View the PDF’s visual elements for quick insights (Available for all Feedly plans).
  • Automatically extract and process indicators and TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures).
  • Prompt Ask AI to extract data and structure intelligence faster.
  • Synthesize intelligence across multiple PDFs to identify trends or emerging threats.

Shift analysts’ focus from tedious data extraction to higher-value threat analysis and defensive strategy development.

Overview

PDFs often contain valid threat intelligence data and trends produced by trusted parties. However, processing these documents is often tedious and error-prone.

Feedly now supports open-source PDFs from two sources:

  • Those captured by your AI Feeds.
  • Those you manually add to a Feedly Board via an open-source URL.

You can view and read PDFs directly within Feedly, but the bigger value comes from automatic threat intelligence extraction. Feedly processes PDF content like any other intelligence source, converting them to STIX-formatted JSON for seamless import into your existing tools. Additionally, you can prompt Ask AI to process and synthesize intelligence from multiple PDFs simultaneously, saving time structuring and analyzing threat data.

View the PDF’s visual elements for quick insights

You can now view PDFs directly in the Feedly web application (desktop), including the charts, graphs, and images that often convey information effectively. This is available for all Feedly plans, including free.

Automatically extract and process indicators and TTPs

Feedly AI reads PDFs like other articles such as blogs, social media posts, and threat intel reports. It uses AI Models to identify and extract key intelligence like IoCs (Indicators of Compromise), threat actors, malware, TTPs, CVEs, and more. Feedly then organizes the extracted AI insights, giving you an immediate overview of what matters without digging through the entire PDF.

Like other articles in Feedly, the PDFs are translated to JSON in a rich STIX 2.1 format, so they are easily ingested into other tools via the Feedly API or through no-code integrations.

PDFs can be brought in via an AI Feed or manually to your Feedly Board with a URL. Simply:

  • Copy the URL that carries the PDF (It has to be an open URL, not behind a login, or registration).
  • Go to your Feedly Board and click on the “+” sign.
  • Paste it in the URL.

Prompt Ask AI to extract and structure intelligence faster

Ask AI can help extract and process intelligence into structured formats, making analysis or uploading into other tools easier. For instance, suppose you want to search through a PDF to pull out the TTPs mentioned in the PDF with their MITRE technique. You can prompt Ask AI to create a table listing the tactic, technique, and related data in each row.

Ask AI Prompt

Map out the TTPs along with their corresponding MITRE technique in a table format.

Synthesize intelligence across multiple PDFs to identify trends and emerging threats

Ask AI can help summarize long PDFs, capture key themes, identify relevant threats, or summarize key takeaways. You can run Ask AI Prompts across a single PDF, or up to 25 content pieces, including PDFs and other articles. This can give you a broader and more balanced view of cyberattacks or threats discussed in multiple media.

I am a CTI analyst who is writing a report on new malware. Can you build a report with the sections below. Use concise and analytical intelligence language:
- title of report
- priority level
- Intelligence Requirement
- adversary name(s)
- associated threat actors (if present)
- TTPs with MITRE ID codes (if present)
- technical details (including MITRE attack sequence where present)
- actionable info for threat detection analytics (if present)
- remediation recommendation (if present)
- URLs of sources selected for response

Conclusion

By integrating PDF analysis capabilities, Feedly eliminates a critical intelligence bottleneck in CTI workflows. Analysts can now incorporate PDF-based intelligence alongside other sources without manual extraction burdens, creating a unified threat picture with greater efficiency and consistency. The ability to process intelligence efficiently from all sources—including PDFs—is essential for maintaining a balanced and comprehensive view of threats.
