Hi everyone, I'm trying to transfer data from my Samsung Galaxy to my new iPhone 17 Pro Max but the Move to iOS app keeps failing and won't complete the transfer. I've tried restarting both phones and reinstalling the app but nothing seems to work.

Is there a reliable Move to iOS app alternative method to transfer my data (contacts, photos, messages, apps) from my Samsung to my iPhone 17 Pro Max as Move to iOS app not working? Any recommendations for free tools or other approaches would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Backup the phone to cloud and restore from cloud.

Here, I'd like to share a method with you if Move to iOS not working with cable. This method uses a feature called Device Connect found in some file manager apps on Android. The key advantage is that your iPhone doesn't need to install anything—it just uses its built-in Safari browser.

How It Works if Move to iOS not working with cable:

The Android phone creates a local file server over your Wi-Fi network. Your iPhone connects to that server through Safari, and you can browse, download, and transfer files directly.

    On your Android phone:

    1. Open your file manager app
    2. Navigate to the menu and select Device Connect or a similar option
    3. Tap Start or Enable
    4. Note the web address displayed on your screen—it will look something like http//192.168. 1 .42 :8080

    On your iPhone:

    1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android phone
    2. Open Safari (no other app needed)
    3. Type the exact web address shown on your Android phone into Safari's address bar
    4. Tap Go

    Transfer your files:

    • Your Android phone's file system will appear in Safari on your iPhone
    • Tap any file to download it directly to your iPhone
    • Use the upload button to send files from your iPhone back to your Android device

If you are facing a situation where Move to iOS not working with cable, using the "Email Yourself" method is a completely free and straightforward workaround. It relies only on the email apps already installed on your phones.

Instead of establishing a direct connection between your Android and iPhone, you use your email account as a temporary middleman. You send the files from your Android to your own email address, then open that same email on your iPhone to download them. This method is best suited for transferring photos, documents, and other small files.

How it work on Android phone:

    1. Open your preferred email app (such as Gmail, Outlook, or the default Mail app).
    2. Tap the Compose button to start a new email.
    3. In the "To" field, type your own email address.
    4. Tap the attachment icon (usually a paperclip) and browse to the files you want to transfer.
    5. Select the files (photos, PDFs, documents, etc.) and attach them to the email.
    6. Add a subject line (like "Transfer to iPhone") and tap Send.

    How it work on iPhone:

    1. Open the same email account you used to send the message.
    2. Find the email you just sent.
    3. Tap on the attachments to download them to your iPhone.
    4. For photos and videos: After opening, tap the share icon (square with an arrow) and select Save Image or Save Video to add them to your Photos app.
    5. For documents: Tap the file, then tap the share icon and choose Save to Files to store it in a folder.

If Move to iOS not working with cable, the Email Yourself method offers a basic, no-cost way to move individual files from your Android to your iPhone. It works best for small, important documents and a handful of photos. However, for a complete migration—especially for large photo libraries or message histories—you would need to either resolve the Move to iOS connection issue or accept the limitations of manual file transfer methods.

Resetting your iPhone to the "Hello" screen is a necessary first step, but it does not directly solve the cable connection issue in the Move to iOS not working with cable scenario. This action is part of the process to completely restart the setup on your iPhone so you can attempt the transfer again from a clean slate.

Once your iPhone displays the "Hello" screen, you can begin the setup process again. When you reach the "Transfer Your Apps & Data" screen, you have options.

    • Tap "From Android": This is the correct option to start a new transfer using the Move to iOS app. It is designed to work wirelessly by creating a private Wi-Fi network between your Android device and your iPhone.
    • Regarding the cable method: A direct cable connection between an Android device and an iPhone for this purpose is not a standard feature. While some modern Android phones and iPhones may support a wired connection for faster data transfer, the primary and most reliable method recommended by Apple is the wireless connection through the Move to iOS app. If your initial attempt to use a cable was unsuccessful, it is likely that the connection was not properly established or your devices do not support that specific transfer method.

To give yourself the best chance of success when move to iOS not working with cable, follow these guidelines:

    • Keep both phones plugged in: Data transfer can take a long time and drains the battery. Keeping both devices connected to power prevents the transfer from failing midway.
    • Leave the Move to iOS app open: On your Android device, the app must remain on the screen and active. Do not switch to other apps or take phone calls, as this will interrupt the transfer.
    • Optimize your Android phone's settings: Turn on Airplane Mode on your Android, and then manually re-enable only Wi-Fi. This prevents incoming calls or text messages from disrupting the connection . Also, make sure to disable any Battery Saver or Low Power Mode on both devices, as these can limit performance and interrupt background processes.

Resetting your iPhone to the "Hello" screen is the first step to fixing a failed migration. From there, following the on-screen prompts to use the Move to iOS wirelessly is your best path forward.

Send Anywhere is a practical tool you can use to transfer photos, videos, and music between any Android and iPhone directly, without needing a cloud service or cables.

Instructions: Install the app on both devices. On your Samsung phone, select the photos, videos, or music you want to transfer, tap “Send,” and you will receive a 6-digit code.

On your iPhone, open the app, tap “Receive,” enter the code, and the transfer will begin immediately.

Its advantages include fast, direct transfers without using cloud storage, working across all Android and iPhone models, supporting various file types, and being completely free to use.

Its drawbacks include limited support for contacts, chat records, and system data transfers, and transfer speeds depending on the local Wi-Fi connection quality.

    ps

    • During the transfer, make sure both devices are connected to the same local Wi-Fi network to prevent disconnections.
    • Do not lock the screen or close the app on either device while the transfer is in progress, as this may cause the transfer to fail.
    • For large files or multiple files, split the transfer into smaller batches to prevent timeouts.

This allows you to quickly transfer media files between devices when move to ios app not working. It is suitable for transferring photos, videos, and music when the official tool fails, and works as a reliable alternative solution when move to ios app not working.

Google Drive is a reliable move to ios app alternatives that supports cross-platform sync between any Android and iPhone devices, letting you transfer contacts, photos, calendar events, and documents entirely via cloud sync rather than direct device-to-device transfer.

How to move to ios app alternatives

    Steps for Samsung devices:

    • Open Settings → Accounts and Backup → Google.
    • Enable synchronization for contacts, calendars, and photos.
    • Open Google Photos and turn on backup to upload all your photos.

    Steps on your new iPhone:

    • Go to Settings → Contacts & Calendars → Accounts → Add Account → Google.
    • Sign in with the same Google account you used on your Android device.
    • Turn on syncing for contacts and calendars.
    • Once you install Google Photos, your backed-up photos will appear.

Using the 15GB of free cloud storage provided by Google, the entire process typically takes about 10 minutes. While this cloud-based approach offers a flexible alternative to iOS apps, it cannot transfer app data, chat history, or local files that aren’t synced with Google services.

Therefore, if you prefer a cable-free, cross-platform solution, this is an ideal choice—though you’ll need to ensure you have enough available storage space to hold your data.

Copy My Data is a popular move to ios app alternatives, but it does not support transferring app data or WhatsApp chats, as it only handles basic media and contacts.

It allows you to migrate contacts, photos, and videos between any Android and iPhone, but using this feature requires both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

First, install the app on your Android phone and iPhone, and connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network. On your Android phone, tap “Copy to iPhone.”

On your iPhone, tap “Copy from Android.”

Follow the pairing prompts, select the data you want to transfer, and wait for the process to complete.

Once the transfer finishes, you can access all your contacts, photos, and videos on the new iPhone.

This method cannot transfer app-specific data or system settings, so it is only suitable for users who need to move basic personal data and want a simple move to ios app alternatives.

If you don’t want to use more complex paid tools, you can try this method. This is a lightweight, no-fuss solution, so you should make sure your Wi-Fi connection is stable before starting.

    Cons

    • Only basic data is transferred; app data, chat history, and system settings are not supported.
    • Both devices must remain connected to the same Wi-Fi network throughout the entire transfer process; an unstable network connection may cause the transfer to fail or be incomplete.
    • Large photo and video libraries cannot be processed efficiently; the transfer may take a long time or get stuck due to large file sizes.
    • There is no built-in backup feature, so there is no safeguard if the transfer is interrupted.
