The inquiry is expected to examine the allegations as well as Meta’s response

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has decided to institute an inquiry into allegations that advertisements linked to child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSEAM) appeared on Meta Platforms, taking the matter forward after receiving the company’s response to an earlier notice.

The commission had, on July 3, taken suo motu cognisance of a media report by ‘BBC Eye’ that alleged advertisements related to child sexual exploitative and abuse material were being hosted on Meta’s platforms.

Following the report, the NCPCR issued a notice to Meta Platforms Inc seeking an explanation. The company submitted its reply a week later.

After examining the response, the commission has now decided to institute an inquiry to ascertain the facts of the matter, according to official sources.

The inquiry is expected to examine the allegations as well as Meta’s response before the commission decides on any further course of action.
