Coempt EduTeck at the centre of controversy, again
By KV Kurmanath · 2026-05-26 · via Education news India, Government education schemes, Department of education | The HinduBusinessLine

For Coempt Edu Teck, which is in the news because of the goof-up in the assessment of CBSE answer sheets, it is not the first time it has courted controversy. Globarena Technologies (the earlier avatar of Coempt Edu Teck) was at the centre of a row in Telangana in 2019, when discrepancies were reported in the Telangana Intermediate Board’s Intermediate (Plus 2) examinations.

The Opposition alleged that it was awarded the contract because of its affinity with two of the top leaders in the State government. VSN Raju, the CEO of Coempt, had denied the allegations, saying it won both the technical and financial bids by proving its technical capabilities and offering a lower price.

The OSM solutions provider for the CBSE, Coempt has roped in Sadagopan, an eminent educationist, as Chairman.

What is OSM?

OSM is a digital evaluation system introduced by the CBSE for the first time in the just-concluded academic year, in which all answer books were scanned and made available on screen for evaluation. Post-evaluation, the scripts are made available to students upon payment of a fee for checking and reevaluation, if needed.

With over 18 lakh students appearing for the Plus 2 examinations, nearly 98 lakh answer sheets has to be scanned, requiring heavy-duty scanning of the humongous volume and making them available for grading.

“We have rejected about 30 answer sheets for inconsistencies such as unclear images and duplicate entries. We rejected such copies for evaluation,” a CBSE teacher told businessline. Another teacher contended that the trial run conducted a few days before the exam had raised doubts about whether they would switch back to the traditional method.

The quality of OSM solutions is critical to both grading and reevaluation processes. Scores of Plus 2 students took to social media platforms such as X and Instagram to expose poor-quality scanning of answer sheets and, in some cases, mix-ups, sparking a nationwide furore.

businessline’s queries to Coempt CEO are yet to be answered. “We have over 25 years of experience in providing end-to-end examination solutions to certificate awarding bodies. We are the most preferred partner to automate critical examination processes like pre-examination, question paper management, AI-based online examination, answer-book digitisation (uncut), digital evaluation and post-examination,” claims the company’s website.
