A Moscow court has arrested Mikhail Poluboyarinov, the former CEO of Aeroflot, on charges of abuse of office, the independent Russian news outlet Mediazona reports.

Vedomosti’s sources confirmed his detention, saying investigators are conducting procedural actions with him, though his formal status in the criminal case remains unknown.

The hearing on Poluboyarinov’s arrest took place on June 19. What prompted the case is unknown. Journalists note that until 2020, Poluboyarinov served on the board of VEB.RF, and that in April the same court placed VEB.RF’s current deputy chairman, Artyom Dovlatov, under house arrest on the same charge.

According to a Vedomosti source, the case against Dovlatov was linked to the bailout of banks under the state corporation’s previous management in 2016.

Rostec’s press service told Mediazona that Poluboyarinov works at one of the state corporation’s subsidiaries. Asked whether they were aware of his arrest, the press service responded: “Unfortunately, we have no comment.”

The charge against Poluboyarinov carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Poluboyarinov worked at Aeroflot from 2000 to 2009, serving as deputy CEO. He then moved to VEB.RF, before returning to Aeroflot in November 2020 as CEO. He left the post in March 2022 after being placed under European Union sanctions.

A year later, RBC sources said he had taken a position at Rostec, where he was expected to oversee financial operations across the state corporation’s group of companies.
