ThreatDown is Product of The Year
Mark Stockley · 2025-03-12 · via Product News – ThreatDown by Malwarebytes

ThreatDown Endpoint Protection is the first and only winner of the MRG Effitas Product of the Year award, after 13 consecutive quarters of unmatched success.

Anyone who’s been around a while has learned to treat cybersecurity awards with a degree of caution. But just occasionally, an award lands that actually says something significant about what works, and who is doing something right.

This week, ThreatDown took home the very first Product of the Year award the independent security testers at MRG Effitas have ever given out, beating heavyweight competition like Microsoft Defender, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Trend Micro Security, and BitDefender Endpoint Security.

To get the award, ThreatDown didn’t just have to beat the competition once, it had to do it consistently, over and over again. A feat it achieved by performing flawlessly for 13 (yes, 13) consecutive quarters—something no other product has managed. MRG Effitas CEO Chris Pickard highlighted the win in refreshingly clear terms, describing ThreatDown Endpoint Protection as the “obvious recipient”, following its extraordinary run of success. Pickard added that “ThreatDown is the only Endpoint Protection Platform in our 360° Assessment that has achieved every certification every quarter since Q3 of 2021.”

MRG Effitas awards since Q3 2021

MRG Effitas is known for a thorough, no-nonsense approach to testing that evaluates the capabilities that matter in the real world, like stopping in-the-wild threats such as zero-day malware, ransomware, and exploits, with speedy performance and low false positive rates.

ThreatDown’s secret sauce? Multiple detection engines, including machine learning and behavioral analysis techniques that enable it to block zero-day threats consistently, quarter after quarter.

Malwarebytes CEO Marcin Kleczynski, not usually one to gush, rightly took a victory lap, attributing the success to ThreatDown’s “unwavering commitment” to protecting businesses from today’s increasingly sophisticated cyber-threats. Fair enough, given the evidence.

In a crowded market, with endless promises and questionable claims, genuine reliability and effectiveness stand out like beacons. And in the case of ThreatDown, consistent success in third-party testing from the likes of MRG Effitas, AV Lab Foundation and CRN is becoming a habit.
