Garima Saikia Garg unveils life-size statue of Zubeen Garg in Assam's Bongaigaon

Garima Saikia Garg, wife of renowned Assamese singer and music icon Zubeen Garg, on June 23 unveiled a full-length statue of the artist at the International Academy of Scholars in Kharija Dalaigaon, Bongaigaon.

The statue was installed in the school premises through the initiative of noted physician Dr. Itesh Bordoloi. The full-length sculpture was created by acclaimed artist Khargeswar Boro of Udalguri.

The unveiling ceremony was marked by musical tributes to Zubeen Garg, with several of his popular songs being played to commemorate his contribution to Assamese music and culture.

Speaking to the media after the event, Garima Saikia Garg said that Bongaigaon holds a special place in Zubeen Garg's life and legacy. She emphasized the need to keep his ideals, contributions and identity alive among future generations.

“Bongaigaon is Zubeen’s own place. We must keep Zubeen’s essence alive,” she said.

Responding to questions from journalists, Garima Saikia Garg also commented on issues related to the use of funds from Zubeen Garg’s bank account and reacted to reports regarding a petition filed by Shyamkanu Mahanta before the Supreme Court.

The event was attended by admirers, well-wishers, cultural enthusiasts and local residents who gathered to pay tribute to one of Assam’s most celebrated musical figures.
