ATTSA alleges illegal occupation of Tea Tribe land in Assam's Ledo; Margherita administration issues notice

The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) has raised serious allegations of illegal occupation of land belonging to a Tea Tribe family in Ledo Maulang under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district, where a brick kiln has reportedly been established.

According to a complaint submitted by the ATTSA Margherita Branch Committee, two individuals, identified as Jugesh Das and Zaminul Rahman alias Pitka, are allegedly operating a brick kiln without obtaining the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) and other mandatory documents.

The association alleged that the duo unlawfully took possession of 9 bigha 2 katha of land belonging to Sanu Mura, a resident of Ledo Maulang from the Tea Tribe community, and subsequently set up the brick kiln on the property.

ATTSA further alleged that forged lease documents were prepared in connection with the land.

Speaking on the issue, ATTSA Central Executive Committee leader Pranjal Baraik claimed that under the terms of the lease agreement, Sanu Mura was entitled to receive Rs 36 lakh over four years at the rate of Rs 9 lakh annually, but has allegedly not received the amount.

Following the second hearing of the matter at the Margherita Circle Office, the Margherita Co-District Administration directed Jugesh Das to submit all valid lease-related documents within one month.

The administration's move comes amid growing demands for a thorough inquiry into the allegations. The matter is currently under official scrutiny.
