Assam Food, Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai on June 20 inspected the damaged stretches of the Silchar–Saurashtra East-West Corridor between Nirimboi and Harangajao in Dima Hasao district.

During the visit, the minister reviewed the progress of ongoing construction and restoration works at Jatinga, Rekho, Boro Mulkhoi, and Dalaichung. He was accompanied by Public Health Engineering, Barak Valley Development and Hill Areas Development Minister Krishnendu Paul, who is also the guardian minister of Dima Hasao district.

Others present during the inspection included North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, MLA Rupali Langthasa, Dima Hasao BJP president Dhriti Thaosen, officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), representatives of the executing agencies, and senior district administration officials.

The ministers reviewed the progress of the construction work and assessed efforts being undertaken to restore sections damaged by landslides and adverse weather conditions.

Speaking during the inspection, Kaushik Rai said that the highway project is progressing rapidly due to the active intervention and regular monitoring of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He noted that although certain stretches of the corridor had been affected by landslides, repair and reconstruction works are being carried out on a war footing. The minister expressed confidence that the crucial road project would be completed soon, significantly improving safe and smooth connectivity for commuters.

Officials of the National Highways Authority of India assured the minister that work on the East-West Corridor between Nirimboi and Harangajao is continuing without interruption and that all efforts are being made to complete the project at the earliest.
