A tense situation was reportedly witnessed in an area under Raha Police Station in Assam following a dispute related to vacating a rented house, with a woman journalist alleging physical assault, verbal abuse and intimidation by the house owner and his family members.

According to the complainant, Deep Shikha Deka, her parents had been residing in the rented accommodation for a considerable period. She stated that following an earlier disagreement with the landlord, the family had decided to vacate the premises.

Speaking to the media, Deka alleged that while they were in the process of packing and shifting household belongings on the day of the incident, a fresh altercation broke out with the landlord’s family over an old broken helmet.

She claimed that during the confrontation, the house owner allegedly used abusive and obscene language against her and also made objectionable remarks concerning her profession as a journalist. Deka further alleged that she was threatened during the exchange.

According to the complainant, the situation escalated when the landlord’s son, identified as Priyam Pratim Das, arrived at the spot and allegedly assaulted her. She alleged that he pulled her clothes, slapped her and struck her on the chest.

Deka further claimed that the accused also snatched a microphone carrying the logo of her media organisation and threw it in an attempt to damage it.

She additionally alleged that her father was physically assaulted when he intervened to protect her during the altercation.

The complainant stated that video footage of the incident had been recorded on her mobile phone and submitted as part of her complaint.

A formal complaint has been lodged at Raha Police Station against the house owner and his son, Priyam Pratim Das. Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations.

No statement from the accused side was immediately available at the time of reporting.
