After taking down the Boston Celtics in Game 6, several Philadelphia 76ers players are gaining plenty of praise within the media space, rightfully so. On a team that has Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, the rookie VJ Edgecombe tends to go unmentioned frequently.

However, the retired superstar guard Chris Paul is not willing to let that happen. Joining The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Paul discussed Edgecombe.

What Did Chris Paul Say About VJ Edgecombe?

“Everybody always talks about the playoffs, and how it’s for the vets and all this stuff like that,” Paul said.

“VJ is a rookie, but I just love his mindset of not waiting, right? I’m not going to wait and see what the league is in five or six years. He goes out there and got to it right away Tyrese [Maxey], everybody knows what type of time he’s on at all times, but this is going to be a dangerous backcourt for a real long time.”

The 76ers Are Thriving With The Young Duo

With Joel Embiid back in the mix during the first-round series against the Boston Celtics, it’s clear that the 76ers are on a different level.

But even before he made it back, the 76ers stole a game in Boston during Game 2. It was a masterful showing by the young duo of Maxey and Edgecombe.

Finding consistency will be key for the two guards, but it’s clear they have the potential to be among the league’s top backcourt duos for years to come. Paul sees the vision. Clearly, so do the Sixers.

After getting selected No. 3 out of Baylor, Edgecombe became an instant starter for the Sixers. He played in 75 games as a rookie, seeing the court for 35.0 minutes per game.

Throughout his first regular season, Edgecombe shot 43.8% from the field and averaged 16.0 points per game. He came down with 5.6 rebounds per game and produced 4.2 assists per game.

In the playoffs, Edgecombe has remained effective. While his scoring numbers are down to 13.8 points per game, the young rookie is coming down with 7.0 rebounds per game. As the postseason lives on, Edgecombe continues to prove he belongs.
