Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown spent the final days of the season shutting down questions about his future while offering a passionate defense of the group that battled through one of the franchise’s most difficult years in recent memory.

Following Boston’s shocking Game 7 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, speculation surrounding Brown intensified after Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady suggested there was deeper frustration between Brown and the organization, ESPN reports. Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens quickly denied the idea Wednesday, saying his recent conversation with Brown was entirely positive.

“He has not expressed those frustrations to me,” Stevens said after speaking with Brown earlier in the week, Basketball reports.

Hours later, Brown reinforced that message himself during a stream on FCHWPO Twitch.

“I hate that our president of basketball operations even had to respond to this,” Brown said. “Me and Brad have a great relationship. I love Boston. And if it was up to me I could play in Boston for the next 10 years.”

Brown’s comments arrived after one of the best individual seasons of his career. The five-time All-Star averaged career highs with 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while helping Boston secure the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference despite extended adversity surrounding the roster.

Jaylen Brown Says Celtics Grew Through Adversity

While outside conversation focused heavily on the Celtics blowing a 3-1 series lead, Brown centered his attention on the growth he witnessed throughout the locker room.

During his Twitch stream, Brown explained why this season ultimately became his favorite, despite the painful ending.

“I got to see the rookie Hugo add value and play with fire,” Brown said. “I saw Jordan, who was trying to find his footing, grow every day in practice. I watched Queta become a starting big in this league.”

Brown also highlighted the development of Payton Pritchard and the perseverance shown by Jayson Tatum during his recovery process.

“Payton Pritchard who was already a killer took on more responsibility and developed into a true go-to guy,” Brown added. “I saw Jayson Tatum come back from injury and mentally overcome everything that takes.”

For Brown, the season represented far more than wins and losses. He repeatedly pointed to the outside expectations surrounding Boston entering the year and the bond that formed as the team fought through criticism and injuries.

“The expectations were for us to fail, to be nothing, and to quit,” Brown said. “We did the exact opposite. We fought every single day.”

Celtics Star Still Focused on Long-Term Future

Brown also addressed the controversy surrounding his comments about officiating after Boston’s elimination. The NBA fined him $50,000 after he claimed officials had “an agenda” during the series and criticized the style of play surrounding league MVP Joel Embiid.

Still, Brown showed little regret.

“You can fine me, you can continue to fine me, but I care about this,” Brown said. “I love the game of basketball.”

Even after a disappointing finish, Brown’s latest comments made one thing clear. While frustration and disappointment remain fresh, his connection to the Celtics organization and the locker room appears stronger than ever.

That matters significantly as Brown becomes eligible for a two-year, $141.9 million extension this summer.
