Keon Coleman training with Stevie Johnson

The Toronto Blue Jays had some extra star power in the building tonight as they welcomed Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman to Rogers Centre. The 22-year-old, already becoming a fan favourite in Western New York thanks to his highlight-reel catches and larger-than-life personality, swapped his cleats for a customized Blue Jays jersey and took in a night of baseball in Toronto.

Coleman’s visit is the latest moment in what has quietly turned into a pretty fun cross-border connection between the Blue Jays and Bills. Different leagues, different countries, but the overlap between the fan bases has always been there, and both organizations have leaned into it more in recent years.

Coleman seemed to fit right into that environment. He spent time meeting players and chatting with members of the organization. For someone known for his confidence and personality, the Rogers Centre setting felt like a natural stop.

A History of Blue Jays & Bills Collaboration

The relationship between the two teams goes beyond surface-level marketing. It’s built on geography and shared audiences more than anything else. Buffalo has long been home to the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate, the Bisons, and that connection became even more visible in 2020 and 2021 when Toronto played its home games out of Sahlen Field during the pandemic.

Since then, there’s been a steady back-and-forth. Bills quarterback Josh Allen has made multiple appearances at Rogers Centre, including a memorable batting practice session where he launched a few balls into the second deck. On the other side, Blue Jays players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have shown up at Highmark Stadium.

There’s a pretty simple reason this keeps happening. The Toronto and Buffalo markets are close enough that the overlap is unavoidable. A lot of fans in southern Ontario follow the Bills as their NFL team of choice, while plenty in Western New York grew up watching the Blue Jays because of proximity and the Bisons connection.

That shared space has created this low-key but consistent relationship between the two fan bases, and athletes like Coleman only add to it. Whether it’s Allen showing up at a Jays game or Coleman taking in a day at Rogers Centre, the connection between Buffalo and Toronto sports just keeps showing up in small, natural ways.
