The San Francisco 49ers have added veterans this offseason on offense, but could they be a landing spot for another experienced player for their defense? San Francisco is in a win-now window, given the ages of its top players.

As a result, the Niners could be looking at any players that can shore up any weaknesses on the team heading into the 2026 NFL season. Moreover, with the Indianapolis Colts releasing veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II on May 7, could the 49ers be a landing spot?

FanSided’s Alicia de Artola believes that San Francisco would be an ideal place for Moore to continue his NFL career.

“The San Francisco 49ers added Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs to the secondary in depth roles this offseason,” de Artola wrote in her May 7 article. “There’s still room to upgrade on Upton Stout, who handled slot duties as a rookie in 2025. Stout wasn’t bad in his debut, but he’s not the finished article. For the 49ers to make a Super Bowl push, they need better than ‘not bad.’

“Moore would elevate that secondary with his coverage ability and run stopping. Moreover, his veteran precence could make a difference in what is a relatively green back five. Deommodore Lenoir is the oldest projected starter in the bunch at 26.”

During his time with the Colts, Moore started 111 games, recording 21 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles. 

49ers Have Flexibility to Take a Run at Kenny Moore II

Furthermore, de Artola noted that because the Niners have roughly $71 million in salary cap space, per OverTheCap, and because of their financial flexibility, adding more depth at cornerback would be ideal.

“Maybe the 49ers like what they’ve got in Stout,” de Artola noted. “Maybe adding Moore would answer a problem the coaching staff doesn’t think they have.

“That’s the advantage a team like SF has, considering they’ve got $71 million or so in cap space. The DB wouldn’t even make a dent in that while shoring up a defense that had an overall PFF grade of 49.2. That’s the luxury San Francisco is working with.”

Veteran Edge Makes Feelings Clear on Playing for Niners

Moore isn’t the only veteran player that could be on the 49ers’ radar if they decide to see what’s out there in free agency. Recently, on the May 5 edition of “Up & Adams,” former Baltimore Ravens standout Kyle van Noy expressed his desire to play alongside 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.

“I really would like to play with my little brother, Fred Warner, with the Niners,” van Noy told Adams. “I think they’ve got something cooking over there; I know they love Joey Bosa because of Nick and all that [and] I get that. But I would love to play with my little brother. That’s my guy. And I think they’ve got something cooking over there.”

Last season for the Ravens, Van Noy posted a 63.0 overall PFF defensive grade. Moreover, the veteran pass rusher had a PFF pass-rush grade of 51.8 and run-defense grade of 76.7. Van Noy. He also generated 27 total pressures as a pass rusher, including two sacks, 17 hurries, and eight hits.
