Raiders Issued Major Stefon Diggs Take Amid Wideout Questions

The Las Vegas Raiders‘ wideout room is one of the question marks that the Silver and Black have heading into the 2026 NFL season. General manager John Spytek signed Jalen Nailor and drafted Malik Benson in the sixth round of the 2026 draft.

Nonetheless, Spytek didn’t make a trade for an impact receiver, trade into the first round to draft one, or use a Day 2 pick on a wideout.

As a result, Spytek and Co. probably want to see what they have with their current group, which includes Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr., whose development took a hit under former head coach Pete Carroll.

Nonetheless, could the Silver and Black look at the veteran free agent market? Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick listed the Raiders as one of the best potential landing spots for veteran wideout Stefon Diggs, who has a connection with Kirk Cousins from their time with the Minnesota Vikings.

“While Las Vegas does employ arguably the league’s best tight end in Brock Bowers, their current wide receiver situation should be considered below-average at best with Jack Bech, Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker leading the room,” Kadlick wrote in a May 6 article.

“Adding Diggs as a veteran leader would make a ton of sense as the Silver and Black look to make their mark in Klint Kubiak’s first season at the helm.”

Would Stefon Diggs Be a Positive Signing for Las Vegas?

Moreover, while Diggs had a legal issue that has since been resolved after he was found not guilty on May 5 of assaulting his private chef in a pay dispute, Kadlick notes he has been a net positive in his recent stops with the Houston Texans and New England Patriots.

Both teams featured young quarterbacks in C.J. Stroud and Drake Maye, similar to Las Vegas, who now have Fernando Mendoza under center.

“Between his stops with the Bills, Texans and most recently in New England, Diggs has proved to be a net positive for teams looking to surround a young quarterback with talent,” Kadlick added.

“On that note, the Raiders just selected Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick in the draft and can use all the help they can to build up their offense.

Former Raiders OL Pumping the Brakes on Pursuing Wideout

Despite all the concerns regarding the Silver and Black’s wideout room, former Raiders offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy is putting the brakes on signing or trading for a receiver. Kennedy believes the team needs to evaluate what they have first before proceeding with any trade or signing.

“You had an addition with Nailor,” Kennedy said on the May 5 edition of the “Raiders Squad Show. “You still have to see what you have out of Jack Bech [and] you still have to see what you have in Dont’e Thornton Jr. You still have to see Tre Tucker coming into the final year of his contract.”

Additionally, Kennedy states that the Silver and Black shouldn’t look to the free-agent market to improve their wideout group, especially if it comes at the cost of creating distractions on a team that will be really young.

“You don’t need to go out and address it in free agency or sign one of these guys or make a play for one of these star diva names because that brings a distraction in your locker room, I think, Kennedy added. “What you’re trying to do is create cohesiveness with a very young and impressionable team.”
