Bridgerton's Season 5 Release in 2027 Is Its Quickest Return Yet

Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor Reveals Shocking Reason She Hasn’t Returned

You will burn for the latest Bridgerton news.

Netflix announced at its May 13 upfront presentation that season five of the series will hit the streamer in 2027, multiple outlets confirmed. Although the series already has four seasons under its belt, season five is making show history in more ways than one—including marking the first time since the show’s 2020 debut that there will be less than two years between installments. (Season four debuted in January.)

Meanwhile, season five also has a queer romance at its center as it focuses on the budding romance between Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) two years after the death of Francesca’s husband John Stirling (Victor Alli).

And with filming for the season—which will be pulling from Julia Quinn’s When He Was Wickedalready underway, showrunner Jess Brownell is teasing what fans can expect from Francesca and Michaela's love story.

“More than ever, season five is going to be about yearning,” Brownell told Netflix’s Tudum in March. “It feels groundbreaking. Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We’re not the first by any means.”

In fact, the series has also seen Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) explore his queer identity. Still, Brownell emphasized, “To make an entire Bridgerton season about a sapphic relationship feels huge.”

And while she’s excited to explore Francesca's feelings for Michaela—who is Michael Sterling in the original novel—she mostly wants viewers to resonate with their connection.

Liam Daniel/Netflix

“I’ve said from the beginning that this show, in so many ways, is about allowing people to see themselves represented, allowing themselves to dream, and imagine themselves in these fantastical roles,” Brownell explained. “It never felt right to not be inclusive of queer love as well within that fantasy.”

Dodd and Baduza are also excited to help to lead a new story for the Bridgerton universe.

“[Queer love stories] have traditionally been excluded from things like period dramas,” Dodd shared with Tudum in April, “and queer people did exist, have always existed, and will always exist.”

To which Baduza added, “What we really want to achieve is giving a realistic view of queer love onscreen and [giving them] a happily ever after.”

While you wait on season five of Bridgerton, keep reading to see when more of your favorite TV shows will be premiering.

Cameras also document the 2024 transition from former head coach Gregg Berhalter to current head coach Mauricio Pochettino – a significant shift that resets their strategy and recalibrates the team. As June 2026 approaches, the focus turns to the rising urgency of individual players fighting to secure their spots on the World Cup roster and the pressure on Pochettino and his team to deliver a historic performance on home soil.
