Celebrity Deaths 2026: Catherine O’Hara, Eric Dane & More Fallen Stars

Dylan Carter's loved ones are mourning a tremendous loss.

Nearly three years after the aspiring singer competed on season 24 of The Voice, he died April 25 in Colleton County, S.C, his nonprofit The Local Voice confirmed. He was 24.

"With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community," the organization—which raises funds for women battling cancer—shared on Facebook April 26. "Dylan was the heart of what we do."

"He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen," the message continued. "We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind."

Colleton County law enforcement officials—who did not identify the victim—told TMZ that a person was killed in a single-car accident on the Lowcountry Highway.

E! News has reached out to authorities for further details and has not heard back.

Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also addressed the incident in a social media tribute.

"Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident," he wrote on Facebook April 26. "As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt."

Dylan was set to perform April 27 at the Town of Moncks Corner's "Music on Main" event. The town announced on Facebook that the event has since been canceled.

Dylan joined Reba McEntire's team during his time on the singing competition after earning chair turns from the "Consider Me Gone" singer, as well as John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan during his blind audition.

The then-20-year-old—who was eliminated later in the season during the Battle Rounds—captivated judges and fans while singing Whitney Houston's "I Look to You" as an homage to his late mother.

"When I saw y'all turn around, I saw my mom," he admitted during his audition. "She passed back in October, and she wanted me to sing it at her funeral. So I did it. I tried, but I couldn't make it through it. This was the best second chance. I just made her so proud."

Reba couldn't contain her tears as she commented on Dylan's performance.

"So much emotion, and I saw it and I felt it when you were singing," she said. "That's the kind of songs that do that to me too, because I saw you get so emotionally involved, and that's when you know you've got a great song and a great singer: when it touches your heart."

Meanwhile, Niall commended the singer's ability to turn all the judges' chairs—a difficult achievement on the show.

"Wow, you made the queen cry in the best way possible," the One Direction alum added after Reba's comments. "It was spectacular, you could really feel the emotion. You only get four chairs if it really moves the room."

Following his death, Reba paid tribute to Dylan on her Instagram Stories April 27, writing, "We will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend."
