Ted Lasso Seemingly Loses Main Cast Members Ahead of Season 4
You’re going to want to be a goldfish, if only to watch this teaser over and over again.
Fans’ first look at the highly-anticipated fourth season of Ted Lasso is officially here, confirming the premiere date of August 5 and giving a preview of what to expect when eternal optimist Ted (Jason Sudeikis) returns to London.
This time, Ted is taking on a new challenge: coaching a second division women’s football team. As for how the residents of Richmond upon Thames feel about his return?
“Welcome back, Coach,” one resident, wearing an AFC Richmond scarf tells Ted in the April 28 teaser. “Too bad you’re coaching a bunch of girls, ya wanker.”
But if the first three seasons of Ted Lasso have taught viewers anything, it’s that it only takes a little belief to change hearts and minds.
Other moments teased in the minute-long preview include a seemingly awkward reunion between exes Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) in front of Higgins (Jeremy Swift), an apparently rekindled romance for Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) with magnetic foreigner Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn).
Elsewhere, Ted gets a visit from Ted’s son (newcomer Grant Feely) and his ex-wife Michelle (Andrea Anders) and also accompanies Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) to the one-woman show of his wife Jane Payne (Phoebe Walsh).
Fans also get their first look at the season’s newcomers: Tanya Reynolds, who looks to be on the coaching staff of the new team, comedian Tracy Ullman in a not-yet disclosed role, plus actors Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern.
But while the season four teaser features some more screentime for many of the Apple TV+’s beloved characters, there are a number of absent faces.
Among those who seem like they’re unlikely to reappear in Richmond are many of the men’s team players—including Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni) and Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) among them—coach Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed), therapist Dr. Sharon Fieldston (Sarah Niles) and Rebecca’s nefarious ex-husband Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head).

Beyond the glimpses seen in the teaser trailer, the exact plot points of Ted Lasso’s fourth installment remain under wraps. Jason did, however, previously hinted at what might befall the series’ team members.
“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,” the Horrible Bosses alum teased in a 2025 press release, “in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
