The final episode of The Other Bennet Sister premiered on BritBox this morning, but it’s not the end of Mary Bennet’s (Ella Bruccoleri) story!

BritBox announced today that The Other Bennet Sister will be back with a three-part Christmas special this holiday season. More Mary Bennet! More cozy Jane Austen vibes! And (hopefully) more Dónal Finn as Mr. Hayward!

The new three-part Other Bennet Sister Christmas special will be produced by Bad Wolf for BritBox North America and the BBC. According to BritBox, the special will go into production in Wales this summer. All three episodes will be written by series creator Sarah Quintrell, based on stories by The Other Bennet Sister author Janice Hadlow. Ella Bruccoleri will return as Mary Bennet, along with “a host of other familiar faces from the series set to return.”

“We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations,” series executive producer and CEO of Bad Wolf Jane Tranter said. “These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins.”

“Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas.”

Tranter’s comments seem to suggest that, yes, Dónal Finn will also be back, since The Other Bennet Sister ends with Mary and Tom getting engaged and setting up their life together. Finn is currently shooting the second season of Prime Video’s Young Sherlock.

Just last month at ATX, Sarah Quintrell and Ella Bruccoleri told DECIDER’s Hope Sloop that they were “thinking” about how to potentially continue the story.

“The book is the book,” Quintrell said. “But the way Mary has landed has made everyone think. Now there’s no way we want to do anything that compromises what we’ve created… So it’s about us really thinking.”

It seems that the idea they came up with was a three-part Christmas special!
