WNBA writer claims Fever banned him over Caitlin Clark in...

The coverage of Caitlin Clark’s late roster scratch last month had seemingly more consequences than previously thought.

Reporter Scott Agness, who covers the team for his Fieldhouse Files Substack, said Tuesday his credentials were revoked over his reporting of Clark’s injury status as “part of a strategic management plan.”

“They said it was due to ‘the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information’ and cited my tweet about Caitlin Clark being ruled out 100 minutes before they defeated the Portland Fire on May 20,” he wrote.

“Fever PR briefly spoke with me before the game to ask about the tweet and state that they believed it was false. However, there was no meeting or further conversation before the decision to revoke my credentialed access was communicated to me.”

Requests for comment from the Fever and WNBA were not immediately returned to The Post.

The Fever received a warning — but no financial penalty — from the WNBA after Clark was a late scratch against the Portland Fire despite not being on the team’s official injury report the previous day.

“She’s healthy,” Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters after the 90-73 loss. “We’re not managing anything. This is just a back issue that we want to make sure we give the time to be ready.”

Agness said he was approached by the team regarding his reporting and noted he amended his reporting to include White’s comments.

“Fever PR asked about the tweet [about the strategic management plan], and said it needed to be retracted because it was false,” he told Front Office Sports. “I said that while I understood her position, I have a trusted source and stand by my reporting. And that I would update the story to share whatever [Fever coach Stephanie] White said during her pregame availability.”

The writer also told the outlet he does not have a formal process for reinstatement and that the Fever PR team stands by its decision.

Agness was previously barred from covering the Pacers over an allegation that he parked in the media lot without permission during the 2024 All-Star Game, which he denies.
