David Allen Coe’s estranged daughter Tanya Montana Coe claims she wasn’t “given the opportunity” to see him before he died.

The country legend died Wednesday at 86, his rep confirmed, though no cause of death was given. After the news broke, Tanya wrote an emotional social media post noting she wasn’t able to see her father a final time.

“Waking up to the news that your dad has died and not being given the opportunity to see him one last time is a hell I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy,” she wrote.

She also shared that she hadn’t been informed about any funeral arrangements for her father.

“If anyone finds out about any funeral arrangements, please let me know as I would like to be at my dad’s funeral,” she wrote.

Tanya’s mother is David’s ex-wife Jody Lynn Coe. He had four kids with Jody — Tanya, as well as Tyler, Shyanne, and Carson.

David was married five times before meeting his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, whom he married in 2010.

In September 2025, Tanya — who’s also a musician — shared that she had been estranged from her dad for “quite awhile” in an Instagram post.

“Suffice it to say, my father disowned me … blamed it on Jody, told me they were moving out of state and he couldn’t tell me where they were moving to,” she claimed.

“He shed a tear … real or crocodile I am not sure, threw 200 dollars at my feet, rolled up the window of the limo and drove off without a second glance,” she continued.

She shared in the same post that she just found out that she had a half brother who was born four and a half months after her.

“I’m processing a lot of family stuff rn ☮️❤️,” she wrote.

Tanya isn’t the only one of David’s children that was estranged from him. His son Tyler — who dropped out of high school at 14 to join David on tour — told GQ in 2021 that he hadn’t spoken to him since 2013, when the “Take This Job and Shove It” writer dismissed him from his band and formed a new one.

“It wasn’t a relationship that was ever there,” he told the outlet of not being particularly upset over their falling out. “It hurt, but it’s not a new hurt.”

“I could probably count on one hand the number of times that my father has said useful life things to me,” he added.
