It’s a bit of a good news/bad news situation for fans of the Zachary Quinto-led medical drama Brilliant Minds. The NBC series returns tonight (May 27) with the first of the final six episodes of Season 2. But, unfortunately, the show won’t be back for a third season.

Earlier this month, NBC decided not to renew the series for Season 3, but, on the bright side, the network will air the remaining Season 2 episodes. The series finale is currently set to air on July 1.

Liza Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBCUniversal, recently spoke to Deadline about the show’s cancellation.

“We shot this season and… creatively we love the show, and are really proud of the show, and think that the fans deserve to see how the story ends,” Katz said. “It has a great, very satisfying ending. So we’d like to have the opportunity for the fans of the show, of which there are still many, to be able to see it and finish the story with the characters.”
