The Places Where the World Becomes Quiet
Aarav · 2026-06-12 · via DEV Community

Sometimes I feel tired of how loud everything has become.

Not just the sounds.

The constant movement.
The endless notifications.
The feeling that something always needs attention.

And when it gets too much, I think about nature.

Not as a place to visit. Not as a background for pictures.

More like a place where I can disappear for a while.

A forest.
A rainy afternoon.
A quiet path with no one around.

There is something different about being alone in nature. It is not the same kind of loneliness people usually fear.

Because sometimes, I feel more alone in a crowd than I ever do when I am walking through the woods.

There can be hundreds of people around me, voices everywhere, conversations happening — and somehow I still feel disconnected.

But in a forest, surrounded by trees and silence, I feel present.

I feel like I belong.

Maybe that is why I would choose a quiet walk under the trees over a crowded party or gathering.

Not because I dislike people.

But because nature gives me something that crowds often cannot.

Space.

A moment to think.

A moment where I don't have to perform a version of myself for anyone.

I love the moments where there is nothing trying to distract me.

Trees just stand there.

Rivers keep moving.

The wind passes through without asking anyone for permission.

Nature does not try to be perfect.

And maybe that is why it feels so perfect.

Rain has always felt special to me.

When it starts falling, everything changes. The world slows down. The air feels heavier, the surroundings feel calmer, and ordinary places suddenly look different.

But I think storms are even more fascinating.

Most people see storms as destruction.

Thunder as something frightening.

Dark clouds as something negative.

But I see another side of it.

A storm feels like nature releasing something.

Like the sky is carrying emotions too.

Maybe it is strange to think this way, but humans also release things when they become too heavy.

We cry.
We shout.
We let our emotions escape.

And after that, we often feel lighter.

Maybe storms are nature's version of that.

A moment of chaos before everything becomes quiet again.

I like watching the clouds become darker.

I like hearing the thunder.

I like the feeling of standing there while something much bigger than me is happening.

It reminds me that the world is alive.

Autumn gives me a different feeling.

There is something beautiful about things changing.

Leaves falling are not just about endings.

They are proof that change can still be beautiful.

Nature never stays the same.

And maybe we shouldn't expect ourselves to either.

I think that is what I admire most about it.

Nature does not apologize for being wild.

A storm does not ask if it is too loud.

A tree does not worry if it grows differently from another tree.

A river does not compare itself with another river.

It simply exists.

Maybe that is what I want sometimes.

To stop trying to make everything perfect.

To stop running.

To just exist.

Because somewhere between the rain, the forests, the storms, and the silence...

I find a version of myself that feels real.
