Taking a page from the Netflix playbook with the series finale of Stranger Things, Prime Video’s series finale of The Boys will hit theaters in 4DX, it was announced on the show’s X handle this AM.

“In two weeks, we’re going out with a bang. Literally, because ya might vibrate watchin’ the series finale in 4DX. Get yer mitts on a seat with the purchase of a concession voucher, which is good towards sweets or soda the day of. See ya May 19 at 9:30 p.m,” read the post.

The finale will screen in theaters the day before it hits Prime on May 20. Locations will include Regal, AMC, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis, and Regency.

With Stranger Things, due to guild contractual issues with talent, Netflix and exhibitors couldn’t charge ticket prices to moviegoers for the series finale which took place on New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day. Instead, fans reserved their seats for $20, which got them a concession voucher. The series finale for Stranger Things –in concession cash, mind you– earned $25M+, with 60% of those ticket sales coming from AMC.

And we’re hearing that’s the same scenario with The Boys. Movie tickets will not be charged. Moviegoers will reserve seats by purchasing a concession voucher.

HBO Max and Warner Bros also did a theatrical stunt with the season 2 finale of The Pitt, screening the episode at Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas on April 13, three days before the finale aired on HBO Max, which was April 16.

The Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures production of The Boys takes place in a world where corrupt superheroes are revered as political leaders and God-like. However, a rebellion forms around them to take them down. The series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and Cameron Crovetti, as well as Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jensen Ackles, Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward. Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg created the series, which was adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series.

Season one of The Boys debuted on July 26, 2019. The series won four Emmys and was nominated in 2021 in Outstanding Drama Series.
