Stacey Sher Inks First-Look Deal With MGM Television

Two-time Oscar-nominated producer Stacey Sher, who’s behind more than two dozen critically acclaimed films such as Pulp Fiction, Django UnchainedThe Hateful Eight and Erin Brockovich, has signed a first-look deal with MGM Television. Under the pact, Sher will develop and produce television series for the studio via her Shiny Penny Productions.

Sher’s body of work has collectively grossed nearly $2.7 billion at the global box office. In addition to the films mentioned above, Sher’s credits also include Out of SightContagionGarden StateReality BitesGet ShortyMan on the MoonGattaca, and Respect. Her work in television includes executive producing the Emmy-nominated limited series Mrs. America, as well as series such as Into the BadlandsSweet/ViciousReno 911, and Skylanders Academy.

“Stacey is a visionary producer with an extraordinary track record of bringing bold, culturally resonant stories to life across film and television,” said Lindsay Sloane, Head of MGM Television. “Her ability to champion distinctive voices and deliver unforgettable storytelling has shaped some of the most iconic projects of the past three decades. We’re thrilled to partner with her and look forward to the incredible stories we’ll create together for our global audience.”

Most recently, Sher produced the A24 thriller Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, which earned multiple award nominations, and is currently producing the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Verity, directed by Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. As Deadline exclusively reported, she’s also set to produce via her Shiny Penny FernGully as a live-action film based on the beloved 1992 animated FernGully: The Last Rainforest.

Katie Aquino serves as Creative Executive of Film and Television at Sher’s Shiny Penny. Most recently, Aquino was an associate producer on Heretic and the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Verity, and will executive produce Amazon MGM Studios’ reimagining of Baby Boom. A graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, she began her career at Creative Artists Agency in the television talent department before joining Shiny Penny in 2021.

In addition to her film and television work, Sher served as an executive producer on the Academy Award–winning documentary short Period. End of Sentence., which led to the creation of The Pad Project, a nonprofit dedicated to menstrual equity worldwide. She currently serves on the organization’s board of directors.

Sher has been recognized by the ACLU for her commitment to socially impactful storytelling, and received the Humanitas Prize for Freedom Writers, and the Christopher Award for World Trade Center. In 2024, she was awarded the Premio Raimondo Rezzonico at the Locarno Film Festival, honoring her contributions to international film production.

She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, BAFTA, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Producers Guild of America.
